Welcome to HISP Canada

Bringing Globally Proven Digital Health Strategies and Approaches to Canadians

Contact us

HISP Canada is a concept-stage organization.   We are looking for like minded organizations and people to bring cost-effective digital health approaches and solutions to the Canadian Digital Health landscape.

We are affiliated with the Global Network of HISP Nodes.  HISP is a global movement to strengthen Health Information Systems in developing countries that started in South Africa in the 1990's. HISP, headed from the University of Oslo is one of the leading organisations in this movement and our contribution includes in-country capacity building and implementation support, research, a PhD program, and hosting the core DHIS2 software development team.

The network designs, implements and sustains Health Information Systems following a participatory approach. Its core aim is to support local management of health care delivery and information flows in selected heath facilities, districts, and provinces, and its further spread within and across developing countries. HISP also promotes the enterprise date gathering and intelligence platform DHIS2, as a global public good.

The leading partner of the HISP Network, at the Department of Informatics at the University of Oslo, is designated as a World Health Organisation (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Innovation and Implementation Research for health information systems strengthening.

HISP Canada seeks to find synergies between successful digital health efforts around the world and their potential applicabilities to challenges in Canadian Public Health settings.  Our aims are to focus on means and approaches to significantly lower the cost and raise the bar on quality and sustainability of health informatics systems across the country.
